FAQs

Find the answers to your questions below, if something isn't covered drop us an email and we'll be in touch.

Who is the Tasmanian Produce Collective?

The Tasmanian Produce Collective is an Co-op owned and operated by farmers and food producers. We have our own online farmers market which allows you to:
• Eat local, seasonal produce
• Reduce your climate impact
• Make healthier food choices
• Support local producers and local economies

Each fortnight we are stocked by over 30 producers, ready for you to get shopping and support a food system that benefits our community, our producers and our environment.

Where does the produce come from?

All our producers are Tasmanian businesses. We only stock food that is grown or produced in an environmentally responsible manner with high animal welfare standards.

Do any of your producers use Bovear?

None of the Tasmanian Produce Collective Producers use Bovaer and/or other chemicals in their stock feed. We can confirm that all of our Producers take great care with what they feed their animals to ensure that the product you eat is of the highest quality possible. If you have any other questions please get in touch.

SHOPPING TIP: you can use the filter option at the top of the online farmers market to see all the product that is 1. Chemical Free 2. Grown with organic principles 3. Certified organic

Why should I support the Tasmanian Produce Collective  over the supermarket?

In contrast to the big supermarkets, our mission is to improve access to local and sustainable food for our customers while providing a convenient distribution channel for local producers. As a result, we will have a more localised food system, shorter supply chains, lower CO2 emissions, and a greater proportion of revenue will remain in our local economy

What is the admin & handling fee?

We cut out the middleperson and return as much money tas possible to our farmers and makers, so our 8.5% fee is what helps us move your order across the state and keeps our local food system running smoothly. Here is how it works:

🧑‍🌾Farmers handle the produce with care, packing, labelling and delivering it to their local Hub
🚜 Hubs check off all items, sorting them by final destination
🚚 Our drier picks up, and moves produce from town to town
📍Hubs pick and pack your order
💚 We eet you at your local Collection POint for pickup

Do you use plastic packaging?

We are working to be plastic free by 2024! Our producers must be in transition to using compostable, biodegradable or re-usable packaging within 12 months of joining our Collective. A number of our producers welcome you sending back clean jars to be re-used and most are already using earth friendly packing.

How do I order?

All orders are to be made via the Open Food Network, a not-for-profit platform specifically designed for producers to sell their products online. Head to our homepage for direct links to the shop and to discover our collection point closest to you.

How do I use the Open Food Network (OFN)?

Option 1: Guest log in Enter your details to complete your order. Note: your personal details and order will not be remembered next time you visit the OFN.
Option 2: Create an account with the OFN Enter your personal details. After registering, you will be sent an email asking you to confirm your email address. Once your email address is confirmed, you’re ready to place your order.

Your transaction and order history are saved and you will be able to view your previous purchases. For example, creating an OFN account can be useful in situations where you really liked a jar of jam, but can’t remember the exact brand or flavour to order again.

My verification email has not been received, what do I do?

Due to overzealous email filters (designed to ward off spam) sometimes customers won’t receive their confirmation email from us (or it will be directed to their junk folder). If this occurs, please add the Open Food Network to your ‘safe’ list in your email account settings.

Why are some products not available all year round?

If a product is not ready to harvest, we are not able to supply it.

The items we offer are grown or produced locally and generally picked or made the day before your order is packed. In addition to reducing your carbon footprint, buying local food will save labor costs for transportation and storage, as well as support our local economy.

Can I edit my order?

Unfortunately you cannot edit your order directly on the Open Food Network. You are welcome to submit a second order and we will just put them together for you to collect in one go!

Can I cancel my order?

Yes, you can cancel your order as long as it hasn't already been picked and packed (after Midnight Sunday following the order cycle close date).

Drop us an email and we will manually cancel your order for you.

What is the order deadline?

The deadline to order is midnight on Sunday each fortnightly. This is to ensure that producers have ample time to harvest and collate their orders ready for Wednesday or Thursday collection.

We encourage people to bring their own bags, boxes or esky to collect their produce, to reduce any unnecessary packaging, including recyclable packaging - it’s just like taking your own bags to a physical farmers market!
