On a small family owned farm in North West Tasmania, Atkinson Aquaculture was started in 2016 by Leigh Atkinson. The majority of the farm has been in the family for 123 years previously running dairy, seed and commercial potatoes, forestry, and has now returned to running beef cattle. Irrigation dams that were constructed for the dairy business were unused in the beef operation allowing for trout farming to become an option. My wife and 3 children have run the operation for almost 8 years supplying local fish retailers, restaurants and large supermarkets with plate size rainbow trout.
